Invisible Monsters
Has anyone heard of the film adaptation to be made of Invisible Monsters? I don't know much, except that Jessica Biel is supposed to play Shannon/Brandy. Any other info?
Oh no. Someone make them stop trying to make movies out of Chuck's books. Not cool.
I want more than them
That's the difference
Ok, I was just curious because I heard that recently. But i've heard lots of rumors about Haunted too, which could not really be made into a film (in my humble opinion), so I guess neither will happen.
I'm really curious to see what "Invisible Monsters" would look like as a movie. I think Jessica Biel would not be the correct choice for Shannon. The actress Erika Christensen would be a better choice. The success of a film adaptation depends heavily on who the director is and who the screenwriter is.
Erika Christensen would be a shitty choice.
Shannon/Brandy is supposed to be pretty for one
(which erika is definitely not)
and even for people who disagree, and secondly,
Shannon/brandy is supposed to have that
natural, seen everyday in magazine,
archtypal model look, and if you were
crazy enough to call erika good looking,
she definitely has an original, eccentric
type of beauty. Not the type of beauty
Shannon is labeled with.

Robin Williams should play Brandy/Shane.
Harvey Fierstein we can assimilate into
the movie somehow.

Why do you cut sentences off halfway?

That's the difference
LOL I kind of knew someone would say that because Erika can look pudgy sometimes. You did kind of contradict yourself when you said I'm crazy enough to call Erika good looking, but yet you said she has some beauty. I understand what you're saying though, but I'm just pointing that out. More and more that I think of it, I don't see Erika as the perfect choice for Shannon. Do you think Brandy look basically like a gorgeous Rita Hayworth type, only with BIG hands. Maybe that's it, the actress who portrays Shannon should resemble Rita Hayworth? What do you think? Do you think a thinner man than Robin Williams should play Brandy? I have no idea who would play Brandy, and the other chracters like Manus Kelly.
Let me correct myself then.
I believe she is NOT attractive at all. I expound this by preference, not by any measurable characteristic. If you believe she has beauty, you would admit that it is not typical beauty, but a peculiar beauty, not appealing to everyone, unlike say, Barbie. (maybe people don't like the blond hair, prissy et cetera whatever look, but everyone can agree she is attractive.)
I hope that clarifies, although you said you already knew what i meant
yes, i see her as more of a Rita Hayworth type, although for some arbitrary reason, i see her with a much more youthful looking face. Bad explanation... i mean someone who looks much younger than she actually is...looks more like a little girl.
Actually, looking at more and more Rita photo's i can definitely see it.
Yes, Rita's a good pick actually.
And the Robbin Williams thing i was just kidding about. It was an allusion to Mrs. Doubtfire, him dressing up as a woman, and his energy. I could see him doing a satirical incarnation of it, playing all the characters, like a MAD TV sort of thing.
Hmmm.... for Manus...
I have no clue?
A tall guy for sure.
....Can't think of anyone right now..

i cant see a movie being half as good as the book.
Clearly though, Alexis Arquette would be the best choice for brandy. And she could totally pull off the character.
I pictured someone like Malin Akerman for Evie
Milla Jovovich needs to play the lead girl...I forget her name. She's perfect though.
"The Warmth of Blood" 30 min Short Film
go back and reread the book. they give you physical descriptions of the characters. they should probably match. Shannon is constantly commenting on evie's weight. someone gorgeous shouldnt play her.
Very true. Based on the book's descriptions, I picture Evie has a orange-tanned person, sort of leathery skin. And as the book says, Evie has super highlighted hair. "A rainbow of blonde." LOL nice description. Basically, Evie is a big-haired Texas girl (or man, lol).
Not really her weight, so much as her large frame. Her big-boned-ness.
I could see a drew Barrymore-esque character playing Evie.
Actually, when i was reading it, i envisioned Evie as sort of a Megan Mulally type girl, Karen from Will and Grace. This is of course before i found out Evie was formerly a man, but i believe it still holds plausible.
What do you think?
I was playing with the idea of Jude Law playing Manus. I think i'm on too something with him. I can't imagine Jude Law playing in a Chuck Palahniuk film-adaptation, but he is pretty close to how i'd imagined Manus.
Thoughts?

your right about the big bones. I chose the wrong words. but i think your on to something with Evie. That could really work. I always pictured Manus as more of a fading beauty type of man. Like your typical mid 30's washed up long island guido. Not that I really had anything in mind. But I fear Jude Law may be too Pretty. and british.
Feel free to mock. But i kind of think George Clooney could pull of a great Manus without stealing any spotlight. He can be damn funny.
after seeing him in tropic thunder, i think tom cruise would make a great Manus. but he wouldn't do it because it'd only add to his gay rumours.
could be funny but hes a liability. he would drag scientology in with him and there would be people who refuse to see it just because they hate him. He brings baggage
too bad this never actually happened...I think the linked "director" for years was a Jesse T (or something...can't remember and am too lazy to look). I remember the first rumored female lead was Charlize Theron...thought that would be pretty good. After seeing choke, I am going to be skeptical of any movie versions from now on though. In fairness, choke happens to be my least favorite of Chuck's books.

The problem with making this piece into a motion picture is that all of us envision a different ingénue and cast in our ideal imaginary feature film.
That being said... I would cast it this way: hahaha
Daisy St. Patience (Shannon McFarland):Shannyn Sossamon, Jessica Beil, Megan Fox
Brandy Alexander (Shane McFarland):Rose McGowan
Manus Kelley:Chris Evans
Evelyn "Evie" Cottrell:Marley Shelton (she played Dr. Dakota Block in the Planet Terror portion of Grindhouse)
That would be my ideal cast. Rose HAS to be Brandy, it's just a must. I don't think the same actress should play both the McFarland siblings. Plastic surgery is never an exact match.
*glam.
yea I think you've stated it the best thus far. because my idea of a cast is soooo completely different and perfect in my own mind. I think they should just leave it without a film. which seems to be the way it's going anyway.
I can definitely see Alexis Arquette playing Brandy. I would be happy with that choice. Otherwise, I'm not sure who I would cast. But definitely not Jessica Biel for Shannon. I just can't picture it.
Overrall, I'm wary about Invisible Monsters becoming a movie. I'm afraid they will mess it up and completely destroy the amazing-ness of this book. Honestly, this book is one of the best I have ever read and the movie industry is notorious for messing up movies.
I hope Invisible Monsters comes out unscathed.
Uma Thurman could play Shannon. She would be perfect with Tarantino directing.
All work and no play makes Talbot a dull boy.
she's pushing 40, too old.

I think Teresa Palmer would be a great choice for Shannon. She's the girl in my avatar. I just discovered her. She's a great actress who played in The December Boys with Daniel Radcliffe. She's blond but she changes hair colors for her roles all the time. I say that because in the novel, Invisible Monsters Shannon is described as having auburn hair, which is what made me think Shannon looked along the lines of Rita Hayworth. What does everybody think?
I for one disagree with Alexis Arquette playing the role of Brandy. The book clearly describes Brandy having a strong resemblance to Shannon, meaning Brandy should look very feminine with the exception of her masculine hands. This also means that whomever plays the role of Brandy should have a strong resemblance to whomever plays the role of Shannon.
Manus should be played by Jake Gyllenhaal. His features just scream 'MANUS!' Evie is the model Helena Christensen. Brandy could be Rupert Everett. Shannon is something I don't know.
I agree with Jake Gyllenhaal for Manus and Helena Christensen for Evie but not so much the other suggestion
I think instead of making a movie, they should just release the book in a hardback version so I can stop getting anal about having that one book stand out on my shelf with the others.
manus: patrick wilson
Shannon/Brandy: Olivia Wilde
Shane: Ian Somhalder
Evie: Rachel McAdams (I miss her playing bitchy roles)
oh ! its really nice to see...........
excellent......

Doing it wrong!

Everytime I think of Brandy Alexander, I get this slight idea in my head of Willem Dufoe dressed as a women in the movie Boondock Saints...anyone else feel that way? Lol.
ha, as soon as i read that no oter name could pop into ym head but his for that role.
I really hope Jessica Biel is just a rumor. They need someone pretty to play Shannon, that is true enough... but she also needs to be a good actress which, in my opinion, Biel is not.
I think someone like Emily Blunt
would be good for Shannon. She is classically beautiful and a wonderful actress.
The rumor is that Billy Crudup is part of the cast, and I really like that, actually. He is a great actor and he kinda has that "fading beauty" thing that someone described up there ^^
I don't know. I just really don't see this ending up well as a movie. Some of Chuck's stuff is just a wee bit too complicated to translate to film. I think the director is important when making a book to film adaptation. I am not sure Fight Club would have worked out if it weren't Fincher who did it. I wish Christopher Nolan would do IM.
I've always imagined Manus played by Chris Corner, the lead singer of Sneaker Pimps, if he were ever to act. And Jessica Biel has that natural beauty Shannon is supposed to have. And big hands
her very lifestyle is a sin

jessica biel just sucks though
Lady GaGa would be the ideal person to play Shannon/Brandy...I think it would be perfect!!!!!!
Isn't the movie supposed to come out sometime this year? BTW: Jessica Biel would be the ideal character. She is naturally beautiful and seems like the girl that would play the sexy model that is always in the magazines. If Jessica Biel were to play Shannon then no one would have to force themselves to think that she is beautiful, becuase she is. That is just my opinion.
Le-D911
Yeah, but I don't think Jessica Biel is that great of an actress. I saw her in "Valentine's Day" and she's definitely improved and has pretty good comic timing, but she still comes across as a bit cold and wooden. I just don't think her acting is strong enough to make "Invisible Monsters" work as a movie. Who knows though, I thought Heath Ledger would be terrible as the Joker, and we all know how fantastic that turned out. He was amazing in it. Still, I think Beau Garrett (yeah it sounds like a guy's name, haha) would be a better Shannon. I saw her star in an episode of "House, M.D." as a psychopath who can fake emotions, but she's really just cold inside and evil. Her character has a brain problem, but then she gets it fixed and her personality transforms. The transformation is breathtaking, it brings tears to your eyes. Not a lot of actresses can do that. You should see it. Check out this pic of Beau Garrett:
if lady gaga would tone down the craziness, i think it might work, but i realy don't like the idea of making invisible monsters into a movie because it's my favorite of chuck's.
~Rip yourself open, sew yourself shut.~
Since Shannon was supposed to be very beautiful, the kind where everyone wants to look like her but cant, i viewed her as Shannyn Sossamon. no idea why. i think its because she has that natural beauty as well, but its not commercialized, and she has the body type to play both Shannon and Brandy. and she has the personalities to be the both of them.
She can be crude, blunt without looking like a bitch.
I would totally choose her over Jessica Biel any day.
then again, my own opinion.
Hmmm.... for Manus...
I have no clue?
A tall guy for sure.
....Can't think of anyone right now..
Why does everyone have to be tall!?
Tall people suck!
I think Jessica Beil is pretty enough to play the lead role. She's not a good actress really but i'd imagine the lead role would'nt have many lines.
"Sometimes you just have to pee in the sink."
— Charles Bukowski
Manus: Jeremy London - The way he looks now (or how he looked in celebrity rehab).
And I think Lady Gaga could probably be great as Shannon/Brandy, it might miss the mark, but if it worked it could be great.

You can't spell manslaughter without laughter.
it eould be difficult to do the whole no jaw thing! would be interesting with all the jumping around though!
haute cature and getting hauter
Olivia Wilde should play shannon, Jake Gyllenhaal should be manus, perhaps cameron diaz for Evie, for brandy i wouldn't be so sure.
But i don't think Hollywood would even touch it, and if they do adapt it, the would adapt it poorly (i hope time will prove me wrong, tough).
"It is not reason, more or less furnished, but will that makes the world march"
I am alone.
I think you have it spot on with that casting.

That's been the rumour for like 5 years now. it doesn't look like anything's gonna happen with it.
