Specifically, what kind of bookstores? Rare, signed, occult, general, textbook?
Kind of a large array of answers.
Occult?
Ha.
I use half.com or abebooks for practically everything. Or Amazon, though I'm starting to be very annoyed with them.
http://www.bookfinder.com/ searches amazon, half.com, abebooks, and loads of other online booksellers and gives you all of their prices on one page. search by book, author, etc.
handy.
The only place I tend to buy books is second-hand sellers on Amazon, do check out their ratings though. Occasionally you can find good deals on rarer books or package deals on eBay.
I buy all of mine used. Mostly for $.75 on Half.com

I too use mostly the second-hand sellers on Amazon.
Although I had my first problem with them last week. I ordered a copy of Ransom by Jay McInerney that said it was Like New. The book came and I wouldn't have even classified it as Good. In the description it said "Slight wear. Looks as if it might have been read once. Overall excellent copy."
The book looked like coffee was spilled on it. The edges were terrible. The book looked like it had been rolled up and wouldn't lay flat. Just bad all around.
The guy did give me a full refund for it which was nice. But that was the first time that I didn't give 5 stars.

yeah dude, sam's right, fishpond sounds pretty good. i haven't actually bought anything from there yet. amazon of course, but i tend to not, as t takes forever and a day. i usually go for abe. they're good.
what about bookdepository.com (free shiping worldwide)
i just posted about bookdepository.com the other day ago, and placed my first order to see how they are. i purposefully ordered a uk edition of something to make sure my order traveled, so i could clock processing / shipping vs. amazon.
we'll see how it goes. they do have incredibly low prices and the free shipping is nice.
that's where i got the link from, man. from your post. i haven't used it yet. let us know how it all goes, yeah?
well, so far so good. i ordered it late on the 17th and it was dispatched yesterday. i'm excited. needs to get here NOW.
update, my bookdepository.com order arrived today. they shipped it airmail from the UK on the 17th. seven days transit time is pretty great in my experience, beats out the titles i've bought from amazon.co.uk. i'm especially impressed that it got here so quickly because of the snowstorms the east coast keeps getting hammered by. in michigan we've had 13 inches in the last two days.
man i love this new beat the reaper cover. the book's in sexygood shape.
Hey - where in MI are you from?
Right now I live in Chesterfield. I just moved from Dearborn.

Lansing, home of the pretend 'world class city.'
Also, the Big Lug and his Lugnuts.

I've gotta get outta here.
Your knowledge of 2 random things about Lansing made me realize I know nothing about Chesterfield. So I googled. And found out that we had a really old Saloon from when the town was Milton in the mid-1800's... but then we tore it down in 2004 to put a Coney Island Restaurant there.
Interesting fact that I do remember- that saloon used to have the town hall next to it. One day a drunk comes out of the saloon and burns the town hall to the ground.

HA. I love old drunk stories that end in burning things to the ground.
There's a town called Dansville, 30 minutes away. They have a stop light. It's in their saloon, and sometimes if you go on a good night, they plug it in.
I seriously don't understand how Lansing got to be the capital city.
its got really low prices. I bought some books for 2 cents each. I bought a stephen king book for 50 cents. Shipping is usually 5-6 bucks. I always buy from there
