Hi everyone. I have just registered and it looks like I have to post here to exist, I class "existing" as one of the few things I manage to do well but it'd be great if that could be confirmed by some internets people.

I live in the UK, I have read most of Chuck's books (including plowing through Pygmy and Diary yesterday) and class Invisible Monsters as probably my favourite work of his. Other than that I tend to read anything I come across be it Dickens, Steinbeck or Womans Weekly.

I am late to writing and have only recently had an epiphany that this is something I would like to do. I think lurking here might help.

I said a rude word on local radio once.

I'm afraid that in order to exist you also need to have an avatar.

Welcome! Smile

Welcome Jerome.

I am a also big fan of Women's Weekly; The Lady Magazine is good too.

I hope the rude word was directed at Chris Moyles because I hate him.

I've always found The Lady a bit right-wing.

I would be more famous if it was aimed at a national celebrity. I was merely asked my opinion of someone mildly famous when being interviewed in a bar.

Rude words in a bar are a good start for anyone. Welcome.

If you equate being posh with being right-wing, maybe it is. I'm actually a bit sour grapes about The Lady Magazine because a few years ago I applied for a job in their editorial team and never heard back.

Why are you being secretive about this radio thing? Tell us who it was.

I was just being flippant about The Lady - I'm sure it has various merits. An aunt of mine used to read it but I could never understand why, it just seemed like adverts whenever I flicked through it but I think I was of an age when if it wasn't ladies with staples through their belly button I drew an attention-blank.

My radio outburst was aimed at the owner of a sporting team - I was near to where my home town team were playing at the time and hit the bar big time, the team at the time were going through the mangle of being financially destroyed and after a bit of banter and rapport with the interviewer I deemed the aforementioned owner "a bit of a c%&t".

It was a better story when it was more mysterious - hopefully one day I'll learn to tell it better...

Hi new member.

I was once on the local news in my home town talking about how there is nothing wrong with selling crack because money is money. I was taken completely out of context and that is the only bit of everything I said that they put on the news.

This happens to Pepper, but not me. How ironic!

I once went to a Bosstones concert and the opening band was awful. Everyone in the crowd was kind of standing there, not paying attention, so the lead singer tried to get the crowd into it by yelling things like "You guys ready to rock?" and then putting the microphone (on it's stand) over the crowd. At one point, he stood in front of me, screamed something, and put the mic right over my head. Instinctively, I yelled, "You guys suck." And it echoed throughout the gymnasium. They played one more song and left the stage.

Dickie came out after and explained to the crowd that he invites friends to tour with him so the crowd should be nice to the opening bands.

They were just trying to make money living the dream...from what I remember, they were pretty bad but I actually feel bad for doing that.

Not really. You say some pretty weird stuff on your own.

It's not your fault their friends aren't very good at music though - I can imagine you felt a bit bad about it. Especially if they never gigged again out of shame. Perhaps there are some dusty instruments abandoned in a sad attic, the echo of a badly played chord crying out "you guys suck" whenever one of them works up the courage to play just one more time.

You're a pod of beluga whales swimming contentedly in the Bering Sea.

YES. I want to say that to all the new people.

Anyway Dubois, you don't have to be nervous about answering the question. Just follow your heart. For example, I am a chalky Valentine's day candy with an adorable message of sexual harassment.

Like my avatar, I am a wide eyed mix of melancholy and joy drowning in coffee. Cigarette just out of shot.

I think your message is refreshingly honest.

Imke I will look at the other forums when I get home and try and contribute

I'm not at all sure that beluga whales drink wine; their stubby flippers sadly inadequate for stemware.
