I like when modern artists give their own take on classic movie posters...

What are some of your favorites?

Mondo does a lot of these. But I'm interested in seeing what else is out there (foreign posters, etc).

Always liked these Tarantino "minimalist" ones:

Then Julian's got this attitude and fires a bullet at my brand new car! Real nice! So I fired a shot at his new car. Spy for a spy, that's the way it works around here."

I have one of these, by Olly Moss. Looks fantastic.

And our own Kevin Tong, who did our awesome shirts just put these on sale yesterday. Sold out in less than a minute. Thankfully, I have one coming to me Wink

Here are some from a series of recent screenings held where their films were originally shot. Of course, most of these revisionist posters only work for films that are part of the public lexicon. They'd never work first-run.

Is this like something that is all over the place or something and I've just been living in a bubble of ignorance to their existence all this time?
Everyone's posting all these things all over this thread like they've all got a specific picture folder full of these things and were just waiting for an excuse to post them.

I love 'em! I just wanna know where the heck they came from all of a sudden.

How are these printed? Also, what's an average cost for something like that?

Since I didn't actually receive it yet, I'll comment on Kevin's other stuff that I do have. This sort of stuff is screen-printed by hand on super high quality archival stock. Calling it a "poster" is kind of not doing it justice, IMO. This is a fine-art pint.

As far as cost, that depends on size, print run, number of colors etc. Hit up Kevin's site. http://tragicsunshine.com/store.htm Stuff like this normally starts around $25. The MOON print, shown above was $55. The Evil Dead one that I also posted, ran $80, if I recall correctly.

You won't find a lot of this stuff readily available. Because of the legal aspect, most of them are done on really limited runs. At least that's the case with the good stuff. Keep an eye on Kevin's site, he is always doing new stuff.

Mondo also puts them out pretty frequently http://www.mondotees.com/view_category.asp?cat=12 but the good stuff sells out in minutes, so you have to be hitting refresh as fast as you can when it is going on sale.

The Evil Dead one, as well as several others I see in here are by Olly Moss http://www.ollymoss.com his stuff is amazing but his work is very high-demand. Follow him on twitter to keep an eye out for when he has stuff going on sale. He also does the limited run posters for "A Life Well Wasted", the best podcast you'll ever hear.

We talk about this kind of stuff at The Velvet sometimes. And I follow book cover design blogs and such, too, of which there are all kinds of minimalist reissues, like these and these, oh and here are some neat ideas, too. Some of these things are commissioned by the rights holders, and others are student designers trying to inflate their capabilities portfolios.

Am I the only one by "Clockwork Orange"? At least get the title right. Sheesh.

Actually, a quick GIS for fan-art reveals that apparently almost no one knows the proper name of the book/movie.

Kill me now.

Just came across these really snazzy typographic movie posters this morning. Goonies, Grandma's Boy, Star Wars, etc. Good use of texture in the background as well. 37Posters Oh and for anyone obsesssed with Back To The Future
