Writing Workshop-Experiences With A Marine Biologist
'We', meaning those who paid, signed up for and attended the a Micro-Fiction Workshop at my local Community Writing Center met for the first time last night. A small group of mixed bag personalities, both entertaining and dull at the same time.
Anyway, this is my first local writing workshop and I had high hopes as well as a bit of nervousness going into it as I've only had to share my work quassi anonymously via faceless writing contests.
Long story short (pun intended), the workshop was held by a 'Marine Biologist' who has never written and spent a good deal of the 2 hours reading works she printed off the 'net. Not only was it odd that a non-writing biologist was leading the group, but the fact that we were in Utah with little to no marine life within 500+ miles.
We were given an assignment to write a story limited to 100 words and within 10 minutes-which was beneficial as it put everyone on the spot to think and react rapidly.
Sitting there I kept repeating the line from Post Cards From the Future where Chuck discusses a work shop he attends and just being in the moment and taking away <?> from the experience.
So not having attended one of these, were my hopes set too high and should I have spent the $$ on a pizza? We have one more session next Thursday, so I have plenty of time to think this over, dwell or stage a coup.
Last One Dead Is A Sissy
Granted. But in a non e-world setting this was a little odd I thought.

This does seem bizarre to me.
I think you should skip the workshop next week, stay home and write a story about the the above paragraph instead.
Noted. I'm just starting Chapter 5. Bonus in that the 'Marine Biologist' was kinda cute... made Chapters 2 through 4 flow more.

I feel like there is a website I've heard of that has a really awesome workshop...
