Aspergers Syndrome
People have made threads about their lousy days and about being a loser and it was just a matter of time before I made something to that effect don't ya think?
Well here's my contribution to the pity party...
I just found out today at my doctor visit that I have Aspergers Disease. It's a form of autism and she said it can account for a lot of the weird things I do and say.
It hit me like a fu**ing brick! It's like a part of the control I had over my own body and mind was taken away from me!
There is no cure for it obviously and there aren't many things in general they can do for it. I'm just really scared about it and if anyone has any info on it please let me know!
Links, essays, therapy options... Anything! I don't want this to own me any more than it has too.
But when all's said and done the fact is that I have this and it's not going to go away.

I thought it was a syndrome not a disease?
It is, it's a mild form of autism. An author friend of mine is one of the leading experts on women and Aspergers.
You are the reason cavemen painted on walls!
True story.
You don't strike me as someone with asperger's...
Things you should get:
1. A Second opinion.
2. Yer shine box.
I sense sarcasm
Well I know karate, Voodoo too; I'm gonna make myself available to you
I don't need no make up; I got real scars
I got hair on my chest; I look good without a shirt
When I get to write things out I meticulously write and rewrite what I write until it's almost what I want to say. But if you ever met me in real life you'd probably get a better idea of who I am as a social animal. It's very hard for me to make many friends because it is just so hard to really communicate via speaking.
I just found out that David Byrne has it.

Not another food thread! I fucking hate asparagus!
I love asparagus, never been much of a fan of assburgers though.
I giggled.

Purging of the ass is necessary sometimes. Anyway, i'm pretty sure some of my friends have it. It's not a death sentence.
Yes, I'm not calling you a liar TruePoser, but I have to agree...

i would be interested in knowing how, and why hes an expert on women with asperger's. is there really a huge difference in women who have it and men? if so, what is it, or are they?

“...There are so many ways of being despicable it quite makes one's head spin. But the way to be really despicable is to be contemptuous of other people's pain. You ought to have some apprehension that the man you see before you was once even younger than you are now and arrived at his present wretchedness by imperceptible degrees.”

poser, I think that if you didn't begin every post/topic you make with either an apology for the post or a justfication for why it's ok for you to post it, or a combination of both, people would be more receptive to you.
Self confidece goes a long way in the impression you give out, and as the way you post now stands you start every post in a way that triggers negativity in the brains of everyone reading them. You start every post with a basic inflection that everything else you have to say isn't really worthy of being said or read (which I don't believe is true, I've read plenty of posts of yours that had an interesting core to them, yet you started them, and went on in them, in a way that discredited all of what you said as interesting or worthy).
Also, I'm not sure if I am rememebering correctly, but I believe I read before that people with aspergers have difficulty relating to things outside of themselves, and because of this they have a ton of self reference when they speak. (correct me if I am wrong) I think that is something else too that could help you to shine more on this forum at least, noticing the amout of self referencing you do in compared to the amout of asking about others. I mean, it is ok to talk about yourself, yourself and your expierences are who you are, but people like to be asked about themselves as well, people like to know that if they show interest in someone interest will be showed in return to them.
Please don't take this post wrong, these are just my ideas on part of the reasonmn you get picked on a bit around here. Take them kindly because they are meant so.
pepper. asperger's is, from what i know, which isnt much, characterized by among other things an inability to gauge social situations, or ones social appropriateness. it makes sense that he's justifying himself, or apologizing....

Actually I feel kinda bad for making that joke.
It's a spectrum disorder, which means that on one end, you are detail oriented and a little socially awkward, and at the other end, you are Rain Man.
Given the fact that you are on these forums, and are writing fiction, I think it's clear which end of the spectrum you are on (Hint: don't try counting cards). The linguistic idiosyncrasies associated with Asperger's may also make your fiction distinctive and powerful.
Also, diagnosis of Asperger's is done largely by the subjective views of a physician, and self-reporting by the patient. This means that it is very, very easy to misdiagnose it, especially seeing that the primary symptom is being socially awkward. In fact, I just read the diagnostic criteria for Aspergers (http://www.aspergers.com/aspcrit.htm), and on those criteria, I, and a fair number of the people I know could be diagnosed with it.
So, unless you can get money for having it, move on.

SHE is, and she writes books on how to deal with the problems of being a woman in the workplace and dealing with Aspergers. I tend to agree with you that there shouldn't really be a divided gender line, but I think that's why my feminist girlfriend dumped me.

Also I dated a girl whose brother had aspergers syndrome. He was really cool. Really smart. But he was all over the board emotionally. He would go from being super happy to all of a sudden pissed and throwing stuff. Also if you didn't do exactly what he wanted he would start pouting and keep pestering you. All in all though I really liked him.
You really don't come off as somebody with aspergers. I would probably get a second opinion if I were you. And if you truly have it - you're lucky because it must be a very mild case.

It makes sense to me that someone would specialize in women with Aspergers. It's really rare for girls to have it, like almost statistically insignificant. And I mean, it's strange enough if you meet a boy who's fixated on trains or engines; how weird would it be to meet a girl like that?
There is hope, but not for us.
lol aspergers.
Nate that kid is just like my ex's brother. Like same personality, same weird sense of humor, same obsessions.

So, you're not diabetic?
I don't think you have Aspergers. People with this are usually non emotional and are just confused over emotions. On the other hand are very detail oriented. A perfect job for someone with this condition is usually computer engineering. I think your too emotional to fit this bill.
Internet stalker extraordinaire, and street poet.
my friend that has it was going into jewelry making school (whatever thats called) and he left that to go into gunsmithing, and i think that went under for monetary reasons, as colorado is more expensive than here. hes now in the military, which he seems to enjoy. its a shame though, his jewelry was beautiful. he coulda made a killing

how does a person do that in this setting without seeming nosey or worse (scary)? i think i can tell if a person wants to chat with me in person, but here?! there are soooo many ways to misread what with all the sarcasm, double speak, etc. how is a person suppose to share without being a bother?
Sigh. Ask your doctor where you could get more information? I'd say try Google, but you might find a lot of stuff that's bs.
The fact that you have that syndrome/disease, doesn't change much (If anything, it changes things for the better!). You've always known you were awkward socially, now you just got a name for it.
I want to be your medicine
I want to feed the sparrow in your heart
Both my siblings are Aspergers. With this, they also are depressed and have other anxieties.
From what I've read of your posts you do seem quite emotional, but quite self aware of this.
With my siblings, they cannot really define or articulate their feelings (like you do) other than "I really like that." or "I really don't like that."
I'm happy for you if you are on the ASD spectrum and this diagnosis has really enlightened you. But, I think you should get a second/third opinion.
AND, don't let it be an excuse for things that are not right in your life.
Okay, so, for once, I actually read the thread before posting.
I have Asperger's Syndrome. It's not a disease. It should not cause you any trouble; if you have it, you've had it all your life. See, autism is caused by abnormal folds in the brain - in other words, people with Asperger's are better and worse than other people at this and that. So the only changes supposedly made to you by Asperger's Syndrome is the changes you yourself made, consciously or not, after your psychologist/doctor told you "Asperger's Disease." The fact that he doesn't even know its name makes him a lot less credible, by the way, so you should look for more views on this.
Also, as pointed out, don't use it as an excuse for anything. You are as much to blame for your faults as any silly diagnose you have.
Or that one... you know, plug plug.
It's too cutesy of a title, "AsperGIRL", I mean really. If it were about girls, maybe, but I can't stand adult women that refer to themselves as girls. Sorry! I don't mean to slag your friend.
Temple Grandin has written some great books about Aspergers. I ordered another book by her this morning.
I didn't write the thing, was just plugging for a pal.
Temple Grandin and Rudy are pretty close. She does a blurb on Aspergirls if I remember right.

Yeah, well.
On another note, what are you doing? I was thinking of going to Aunt Mary's for cheesey grits and eggs. You want to join me?
I wish I could go...
On another note - the thread title is driving me nuts.
I'm going to see how long I can last before I change it. haha

I didn't even notice he was missing the "e" in disease. I meant change the thread title to the proper name for the "condition" not "disease."
