American shelf
I went to a store near where I live to get some groceries. Once there I discovered the "American shelf". It had stuff like maple syrup, American pancake-mix (the 'just add water, or milk'-kind).
This shelf had imported Cherry Coke (How I love it) vanilla coke and Root Beer (which I had never before tasted, and it was nothing like what I had imagined)
Also it had Beef Jerky. It's so good, but so expensive. Since some of you live in America, you eat beef jerky like the Chinese eat rice. (I do know you don't really, but still)
Do you have any handy tips, how to make beef jerky?
By the way, your cans are 355 ml, ours are 330 ml, after being imported it's one SEK (about 1/6 of a USD) How much is a Coca-Cola in USA?
I had Root Beer White Rock. Is that the 'wrong' root beer?

pictures will surely help this thread i would love to see the american shelf
also i do love beef jerky and cherry coke but i couldn't tell you how to start making either of them.
I'll get pictures tomorrow
Is there a certain brand of Root Beer that is the 'right' one? Like Coke being the Cola.

That is the oddest assortment of items.
I've always wondered what would be in the "American Food" section of a foreign store.
Too many brands of root beer to call one "right" just try differen ones until you find one you like. Coke costs about a dollar a can, or five dollars a half rack (12 pack).
My husbands mom used to make homemade beef jerky. He say's she used a smoker.
The correct answer to the root beer question is Henry Weinhard's.
I like Stewart's Fountain Classics.
This is an awesome thread.
Good root beers (major brands) include Barq's, A&W, Dad's, and Dr. Brown's.

Are you trying to say that Stewart's is not a major brand? Not only do they make the best root beer and cream soda. They also make a creamsicle in a bottle. Which is ridiculous.
My personal fave root beers DAD's, MUG, A&W, Barq's, but my absolute favorite would have to be Henry Weinhardt's their cream soda is the best.
As for Stewart's I haven't tried their root beer or other sodas.

to make beef jerky you cut steak into strips and place them in a dehydrator for a few days. you can season it according to what type of jerky you want (pepper, teriyaki, bbq). dehydrator's are just plastic shelving units with a lid and wire-heating element in the bottom.
I didn't really want to get into creating a list of major brand root beers and sarsasparillas.

Can't believe I forgot Mug though.

Here's a New York Times article about the "jerky renaissance",

I would have expected hotdogs and bbq chips and twinkies. Hey, what's the most american food?

Except for twinkies, we get those things in your everyday store.

I have to add, the Cream Root Beer tastes the shit.

I remember Derek first trying root beer at the NYC meet up. He said he didn't like it much. His facial expression said he hated it.

Peanutbutter and poptarts! Your american lifestyle has complete!

No no and no. This is the correct answer.

There is hope, but not for us.

It looks tastier. Beverages should always be bottled.
I short circuited earlier, I said Root Beer Cream tasted the shit, What I meant to say was that it tasted like shit. It was disguting as hell, and I had to pour it out, and I really like soda. In fact, I like everything that is carbonated. Except for Root Beer Cream, by White Rock.

No idea what root beer cream might be. Bottled is better, yes, but in a some places real draught root beer is still to be had. Oooh.

Fuck your face off, Jane.
ps - I love you like an orca loves his trainer
This is an unexpected turn of events!
Also, There's a microbrewy here that makes their own root beer and has it on tap. http://www.upstreambrewing.com/ It really does make all the difference.
There is hope, but not for us.
Nice. You know you can make your own root beer pretty easily. mrbeer.com sells root beer kits.
I LIKE TWINKIES.
I also really want bagels, mmm.
I want to be your medicine
I want to feed the sparrow in your heart
How could you?
just like that orca that attacked the shit out of it's trainer?

#1 American food by far would have to be Rama noodles.
I thought of Top Ramen, but decided against mentioning it.

Also, does the American shelf contain any ketchup? How about catsup?
