mistakes in the Tyler/narrator same place at the same time thing
there are a couple of big glaring mistakes that I have found in the whole Tyler narrator being the same person thing. Like when the narrator's suit case is held up and he is talking to the guy about the dildos.... Tyler steals a car, and some guy yells "Hey that's my car."
How could the narrator steal the car?
Also the car ride. Wouldn't the space monkeys in the back seat freak out hearing their fearless leader yelling at him self?
I'm sure that there are others.... I'll have to look closer.
it is only after we lose everything that we are free to do anything.
yeah, but they're hallucinations. jack could just imagine the whole tyler stealing the car thing, and it doesn't really happen at all. or someone completely different could've stolen the car, and jack just saw him as tyler.
this same could be true with the scene in the parking lot. i mean, in the scene with the beer, jack hands tyler the beer, and tyler picks it up. but later when jack's realizing what's going on, it shows him again, handing tyler the beer, and then there's the sound of the bottle hitting the ground. but he didn't hear it, and neither did the audience, the first time around...because jack truly blocked it out of his mind.

That wasn't the scene I was talking about in the parking lot, kitty, but oh well. It's probably applicable for both scenes though.
There is hope, but not for us.
what about the scene in the car?
the space monkeys answer both Tyler and the narrator. "Why didnt you tell me about project mayhem?"
"The first rule..."
"Shut up!"
then later
"What do you wish you had done before you died?"
"Build a house."
"Paint a self portrait."
I don't see how they can answer both people.
it is only after we lose everything that we are free to do anything.
he wasn't asking about project mayhem when he asked what they wanted to do before they died. see its "the first rule of project mayhem is you do not ask questions"
so the second question was not about project mayhem, enabling them to answer.
as it was explained in the movie and book, sometimes he imagined tyler doing something, other times it was like he was watching the tyler part of himself actually doing something.
I know that he wasnt asking about project mayhem... but tyler was asking... and the first statement, why wasnt I told about project mayhem, that was the narrator.
it is only after we lose everything that we are free to do anything.
i am jack's total confusion.
The fact of the matter is you don't know who's words, the Narrator's or Tyler's, were actually audible and which ones were in his head. In the scene in the car, the space monkeys look at each other in confusion because Tyler is obviously going crazy in the front seat; talking to himself.
YOU FUCKED THE WORST, NOW FIGHT THE BEST!

On the special edition, 2 disc, 4 commentary dVd set, someone, Fincher I believe, says that he wasn't even sure who the space monkeys in the car heard/saw. He didn't want to explain which side/sides of the conversation they heard. Just imagine only Norton driving and saying both parts, or imaging himself watching Tyler....
Like The Adversary said... (sorry, I re-read it more closely)
at the end of that scene the car crashes. tyler had been driving, but then he pulls jack out of the driver's seat. it was only jack in the car the whole time--he was saying both parts of the conversation out loud.

beautifully said M0d0. crazy people do tend to get things mixed up from time to time.
yea i agree with m0d0 and insomnomaniac
the movie is not showing the reality...just jack's version of reality...or something like that
Also, he had the Project Mayhem guys so brainwashed and devoted, that obviously they didn't care if Tyler was crazy or not.
The last rule of Project Mayhem is you have to trust Tyler. At least according to the book.
it is only after we lose everything that we are free to do anything.
When the fight club is still new and they're fighting in the parking lot, the businessman steps up and says, "Can I be next?" He looks at Jack on the ground and Tyler standing up.
Watch it again... it's not Jack on the ground... The movie never explains how Fight Club goes from one guy fighting himself to two guys to hundreds
Slice Up and Not Accross
and you'll never know. . . no questions and you have to trust tyler.
The way I figured it, those two guys come out (Tyler waves to them) and see Jack beating the shit out of himself. They're probably drunk and figure Jack's drunk too, and they join in. Grows from there.
What about when people look at both Tyler and Jack in the same scene? The three best examples I can find:
1. When the fight club is still new and they're fighting in the parking lot, the businessman steps up and says, "Can I be next?" He looks at Jack on the ground and Tyler standing up.
2. (I think this one, I'm not sure) When they're selling the soap to the Suzee chick in the department store
3. When Jack gets his face smashed in by the black guy and it leaves the 'mask of blood' on the floor, and Tyler points at it.

Jacks hallucinations. If other people didnt pay attention to Tyler, Jack would notice.
Its all in his head.

*Dances on the spot whimpering 'ohmigodohmigod'* "
One of the few mistakes i noticed is that when edward norton is sitting in a hotel room takes out a candy throws it up and eats it then at the hotel advertisment Tyler is standing at the front row to the extreme right and then all the waiters say welcome
