Hello,

So, I got this sketch of Echo scanned.
A quick sketch and a bit of messing around on the computer.
Blah, I'll not lie, I've already started another version, I don't feel this really hit the mark.

I was aiming to describe that photo Irene Casey talks about, or the moment just after.

I thought I'd post this anyway for posterity.

I think you've got the trashy/sexy thing right. I pictured her arm being even gimpier though.

My thoughts exactly. The bells palsy in the face is spot on but Is somewhat hidden. Listen to me critiquing when I couldn't even draw the couch. I'd do her. Good work dude!!!

You are really good at drawing hands.

And dildos. And boobs.

Ya, but hands are really hard.
Harder than dildos and boobs.
Ponder that.

I pictured her arm being a shrivelled kind of thing too, withered and the sort. Also I hate flip-flops. None of these however, are anything about your drawing. I just really don't like feet. Keep up the good work. I'd like to see a picture of Echo that you think does hit the mark. If I haven't said it already, welcome to the cult and definately stick around. I wish I could draw. :indiffere

Edit: On further reflection, looking at the picture in a better resolution, I think you hit the arm right on actually. Small pictures steal detail. Do you draw professionally, or is it a hobby? The website would seem to indicate the former. In which case - cool.

Hey,

Many thanks for the encouragement with this stuff, I really appreciate it.

monkeywright - I was thinking the very same thing. PS, I will get back to you about the 'monkey' thing, I just got some stuff I have to clear.

bigshrimpn - Thanks again!

essga11 - Thanks, hands can be tricky. It's the one aspect of doing figurative work that people will not forgive, but I've been drawing them for quite a while now so...

corellion - I'm having a go at another sketch of Echo at the minute, from another scene, it feels much better. I'm not too sure where the flip-flop came from, it just seemed appropriate? I do draw professionally, but it's a hobby too. Or an obsession, I forget which, call it luck. Thanks for the welcome, I think I will be sticking around, from the response to the images, I'm getting a little obsessed with doing the characters some sort of justice. If only I had more free time...

Barca Boy - Much thanks again!

Hey,

Well I just got a chance this morning to scan the sketch and add a bit of colour to this version of the Echo character. For me, this feels a bit closer to the mark. It's from the scene described in chapter 21 titled Echo. This would have occurred prior to the Mercer woman dying and curling her hair.

And I just realized I misspelled the characters' surname in the thread title, it should be Lawrence.

I'm thinking about having a go at some of the other characters in the near future using similar compositions to what I've been using so far. I think this works, for the reason that as the 'oral history' is being delivered by the characters it's playing out something similar to an Errol Morris documentary for me. Well if anyone wants to shout up recommendations I be glad to hear, I'm thinking Green Taylor Simms next?

Again, good stuff there. I like the hand pulled up into the coat so you can't see just how deformed it is, let's the viewer imagine it for themselves.
The faded wallpaper is a nice touch as well.

See if you can do Chester Casey, from the first chapter. Where he has those 'sideburns that scored him pussy in highschool', and cowboy boots that have shit flaking off them. Oh, the eye-catching monster hands...

If I could draw, I'd take a crack at that... I have a feeling you'll hit it right on the nose

Great art, man. Good stuff.

Can you, or anyone else, tell me if the black ink splotches used in the drawings have a particular name in the artistic sense? Or are they just basically described as ink splotches? I'm thinking of having something designed in the future and inky stuff like that is pretty much exactly what I had in mind for part of it... if I knew what it was called would be much easier to describe to the artist/designer if the time ever came =D
